Since the bride's feet cannot touch the ground, how does she get into the sedan chair? There are several methods: the bride may wear her father's or brother's oversized shoes over her own red embroidered silk shoes and walk to the sedan chair, removing the oversized shoes once inside; alternatively, a red felt blanket or a straw mat may be spread on the ground for her to walk on. The most common method, however, is for the bride's elder brother to carry her on his back or in his arms into the sedan chair. If she has no elder brother, her maternal uncle will carry her into the sedan chair.
These kinds of customs are still practiced today, but people’s minds are no longer as feudal as in the past, so they are more like a form of etiquette and tradition.
