I tried the Hail Mary maneuver in KSP earlier and it confirmed my suspicions that it's just not possible to get a stable velocity without thrusting directly vertical. Thrusting at an angle will always impart horizontal acceleration.

@mercury_5Hg @Spaceman_Kyle @Alaygroundss I will concede however that the book doesnt make any explicit reference to the horizontal velocity problem but that is frankly solved by using the attitude thrusters so It doesnt really matter.More importantly tho,is the chain is angled completely away from the engine to not melt

@Spaceman_Kyle @Alaygroundss Cool, i dont really care. The book explicitly states what i said, the reason that was the maneuver and not going straight up was explicitly because the astrophage exhaust would destroy the collection device otherwise.

@Alaygroundss Yeah that confused me in the movie. I think their intention was that you would be thrusting mostly vertical and in the direction of you travel to keep your horizontal speed up due to air resistance

His server is also blatant against minecrafts TOS, promotes gambling to children,etc
