As Lent comes to an end and we approach the Easter weekend, I want to send my warmest wishes to Christians in the UK and around the world.

As Canterbury's first female MP (since 1256), I was thrilled by the appointment of Rose, first female Bishop of Dover, and today we welcomed our first ever female Archbishop of Canterbury (since 597). What an incredible day 💜 🤍 💚

Thank you everyone who supported me on my pilgrimage to Canterbury over the last week - whether you joined me for some of the way, offered me a warm welcome, or prayed for me from afar. You don’t make journeys like this alone. You depend on the kindness and support of others, and it teaches you something about how we all need each other - and the joy and life there is in embracing that. The early Christians were known as “people of the way”. I think that’s still a good name for us today. We are pilgrim people, on a journey with God and with each other. Along the way I have also seen so many local churches doing what they always do: offering a space of welcome, support and community. They are beacons of God’s love and care for the people in that place. This has been really lovely to follow the past few days - pilgrimage is a wonderful way to remember faith as a journey and Dame Sarah is the first to do this particular pilgrimage in modern times. All the best to the new Archbishop for her important week ahead.

Cautious, but very sensible speech from the Archbishop of Canterbury

Andrew Watson was a force for good and a great defender of the voiceless - his important work in @UKHouseofLords will be greatly missed, particularly by @APPGFoRB and @APPGPakMin May he rest in peace.

Parliament discussed the war in Iran and across the Middle East late last night. The Bishop of Chelmsford, Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, who came to the UK as a refugee from Iran in 1980, spoke from her own deep personal experience.

It is with great sorrow that I received news that the Rt Revd Andrew Watson, Bishop of Guildford, has died. Andrew was a man of deep Christian faith who lived his life in the service of Christ and others. In the face of death, he demonstrated a calm reassurance of God’s saving grace. Over four decades of ministry, Andrew made an enormous contribution to the life of the Church of England – and, through his concern for Anglicans and other Christians around the world, the global church. He was a gentle man and generous with those who held differing theological views. He will be greatly missed by not just his family and friends, but by the whole church. At this time of grief and loss, I hold Beverly and their sons and daughters in my prayers, asking that God would comfort and strengthen them. I pray too for Andrew’s friends, colleagues and all those whose lives he touched. May Andrew rest in peace and rise in glory. bit.ly/3Nf97yr
