Led by Dr Gültekin Ünal, the exercise club was implemented under the @EUDelegationTur & @WHO-funded Strengthening National Capacities Against #COVID19 Project, in collaboration with @saglikbakanligi to support National Genomic Surveillance Strategy and advance #HealthSecurity.

The 6⃣-week #NGS & #Bioinformatics Exercise Club concluded at @halksagligigm with 4⃣0⃣+ health professionals to strengthen laboratories’ ability to detect and characterize high-threat pathogens, ensuring earlier #outbreak detection and alignment with #WHO standards.

It was an amazing NGS Exercise club with microbiologists and public health experts!

@guerrinomacori Yes, understanding the output and biological processes more important than “the tool” itself. At the end of the day it might mean nothing if have no use of the data or understand it deeply. We should focus on standardized protocols and consensus approaches.

Take taxonomy assignment in metagenomics, different tools give different results, do they change biological conclusions? Should we focus on consensus approaches, complementary methods, or improved reference databases?

Will a small % increase in accuracy from the “best” tool or approach lead to a breakthrough discovery or just a marginal gain? Should we spend more time debating tools or focus on interpreting results while understanding their limitations? What do you think? 🤔
