Happy (almost) Halloween! We’re highlighting some of the interesting creepy crawlies that are found at the San Marcos Foothills Preserve in Santa Barbara. We have the Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans), Tarantula (Aphonopelma), and Banded Garden Spider (Argiope trifasciata).

A tremendous thank you to everyone you could join us for our trip to Santa Rosa Island last week and we hope you enjoyed the event. It was wonderful to see everyone together again on the Channel Islands. An extra special thank you to our extraordinary guides and sweeps.

The Indigenous #Chumash depended upon a variety of food sources on the Channel Islands. One botanical food source that the Chumash of the #ChannelIslands probably relied on most is Blue Dicks (Dipterostemon capitatus), a small wildflower that is also present on the mainland.

Our team at @cirweborg have been hard at work restoring habitat! One of our most extensive projects this year has been in Thousand Oaks, CA removing Sweet Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Yellow Star Thistle (Centaurea solstitialis), and Artichoke Thistle, (Cynara cardunculus).

We're extra grateful for our volunteers who braved the Southern California heat to help remove brush and invasive weeds crowding out our new trail system at the San Marcos Foothills. 🥾
