Some have asked what is the poverty line kept by Shamika Ravi, based on which she and our government are claiming poverty has been eliminated during last 12 years.
As per her, poverty line per month per person in India.
Rs 1940 (rural)
Rs 2759 (urban)
If you believe Rs.2759 per month is enough to call a person as above poverty line in a city like Mumbai or Bengaluru, the poverty line itself is meaningless.
When one billion people in this country (around 70% of India's population) are having a percapita of less than $1000 per annum, what poverty elimination we are talking about?
In cities, even poor people pay a monthly rent of not less than Rs.5000. Just 1 litre of an ordinary milk packet is Rs.40. Vegetables, electricity charges, provisions, transport, mobile charges, medicines, child care, elderly care - the list would be long. Despite all government subsidies and welfare, how much is required to even to lead a minimum basic standard of living?
Definitely not the absurd number of Rs.2759 per person per month in urban areas.
Just because people are able to keep themselves alive doesn't mean they are out of poverty.
Government should define poverty line based on practical realities. We should then estimate how many are poor. The number would be huge.
Measuring correctly is the very basic requirement towards addressing an issue.
Without actual data on poverty, addressing it is impossible.
We can keep celebrating poverty has been eliminated while billion Indians struggle even to survive.
As a country, we don't even want to acknowledge our problems.

@AToMCapital @dmuthuk Statements of similar nature led to French revolution in France

@dmuthuk Only solution for common man is to become elite. So that law becomes same for all.

Porsche's value is Rs 4 crores. The 2 lives killed by Vedant Agarwal is priceless. The video of his family celebrating the bail would enrage anyone. Despite very senior journalists in the country pursuing the case, the killer family's money and power are protecting them. This tragic event was pursued by many channels for months together in prime time. If elites are immune to law, what faith a common man would have on the system?

@Nithin0dha Love how you have not touched upon the current government's fiscal mismanagement / poor policies at all and everything is El Nino and Iran war
English

2026 is turning out to be a case of when it rains, it pours.
Every few years, the Pacific Ocean warms up abnormally, and that phenomenon is called El Niño. When it happens, India's monsoon weakens. This year, it looks like a super El Niño is developing, and the IMD is already forecasting rainfall 6% below normal for 2026.
It may not sound like much, but remember, 70% of India's annual rainfall comes from the monsoon, and 60% of farmers depend entirely on it. If history is any guide, we may have a terrible year ahead. In 60% of El Niño years since 1951, India has seen below-average rain. In 2009, rainfall fell to just 78% of normal, the worst in 37 years.
A weak monsoon means weaker harvests, and weaker harvests mean higher food prices and higher inflation. Food is one of the biggest expenses in a household budget. This is now layering on top of the unholy mess created by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump's war with Iran has effectively shut a channel that carries 20% of the world's oil and 20% of its LNG. India imports 80 to 90% of its oil and 40 to 50% of its gas, and we are already seeing steady price hikes and WFH advisories going out around the world. The Indian crude basket averaged $114 in April and is at $106 in May — still far above comfortable levels, and this crisis may drag on for longer.
When food and energy prices rise together, the RBI cannot stay quiet. Beyond a point, it will have to start hiking rates, and that is when a bad situation starts to feel like a crisis.
It's still May😬

Is this your way of warning Trump and to dissuade him from agreeing to the terms ?
Benjamin Netanyahu - בנימין נתניהו@netanyahu
I am relieved that President @realDonaldTrump, the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House, is safe and that the attacker was neutralized before he could cause any further harm. Political violence, including repeated attempts to assassinate President Trump, should be unequivocally and forcefully condemned by all.
