@KBGreyhoundlady However, often these certifications have standards that make the slaughter process quicker & less stressful than in factory farming systems. For e.g, Soil Association organic standards require the average minimum CO2 concentration to be 90% (80% is the minimum required by UK law)

@ciwf Are pigs that have been reared organically slaughtered in this horrible way please? I would assume higher welfare standards - but that isn’t a given of course

Media reports are warning that a CO2 shortage caused by the Iran war may reduce chicken and pork on our supermarket shelves. What often isn't mentioned is that CO2 is still used to slaughter 90% pigs, even though it is widely regarded as an utterly inhumane method of slaughter.

@KBGreyhoundlady Sadly not; as there are no humane alternatives to CO2 slaughter yet, even pigs reared in higher welfare systems & those in a farming system certified by high welfare standards such as the Soil Association organic & RSPCA Assured labels, are still slaughtered using CO2 methods.

BREAKING: Today, an agricultural pollution case is in the High Court!🧑‍⚖️ 24 million chickens are being raised in the River Wye's catchment area (approx 1/4 of the UK's entire chicken population 🤯) which has caused pollution that puts the river at risk of ecological collapse.

Make it make sense: it would take more than three kilograms of wild fish to raise one kilogram of farmed octopus. Not only would it be extremely cruel, octopus farming wouldn't solve overfishing, it would multiply it. psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/minds-…
