I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me.

Sometimes you're just big enough that people have to get out of your way!

My uncle is in town visiting his kids and their families and at Easter, he said to me, "Iheanyi you didn't tell me live in Houston? I've been coming here and you haven't called me to come visit. Your punishment is that you owe me one bottle of Hennessy." 😂 About to give this guy the big ass 1.5L bottle of Hennessy, might even be the VSOP joint

Uju nwa! She definitely role-modelled bottom-up leadership. It took her intervention for Amarachi's instincts to kick in. Uju is a reminder of why we must never cease to use our voices wherever we find ourselves. They may drive that CRUCIAL difference in outcomes.
R.C.O🍀@RitaOnwurah

That's why Uju's character was kind of my favourite. The rebellious younger daughter who had to remind her older sister that she's so stuck with being the "Ada" that she's let everyone run her life for her. At the end of the day, people will look out for only themselves.

You know, I was hoping the movie will start off a conversation. Because these things do happen. We have parents who infantilize their children, just for living under the same roof with them. And then we had the "Ada" syndrome & how first daughters are expected to conform.
Eli Ezeugoh@ck1125

An interesting watch, Rita. Both parents had their crazy moments. At no point did they feel the need to say: "Amy kedụ ife ilo?". The theme of infantilisation by Nigerian parents was my biggest take away.

@RitaOnwurah Definitely a conversation that I hope our generation can take charge of. A critical part of growing up is taking charge of one's own affairs. Why bother with the expensive education if there's no trust that it will bear fruit? It is after all part of succession planning..

To them she was old enough to leave home alone every day, hold down a job for years but not to decide her own affairs?

@ThatPHCBoy You're watching an evolution of the lingo in real time. You might not love it but it will happen regularly. It is not a bad thing especially as many other languages evolve owing to exposure to non-native speakers. Language professionals CAN however steer if they like.

As we agreed a few months back we are living in times where the Nigerian pseudo elite cannot agree on what their ENLIGHTENED self interest is. Painful but evident across all of society.
