St. Mary is trending because over 100 students were kidnapped this morning as bandits stormed St. Mary’s Catholic school in Papiri, Agwara, Niger State. — The state government is blaming the school. They allegedly arrived in 60-70 motorcycles and trucks for a 1hr operation. And left with each truck filled to capacity with abducted kids. It’s a mixed school. Male, female students and teachers were all taken. A 1hr operation from 2-3am that left a security guard badly injured. Reports from the incident are still develop. Because some reports claim it was over a dozen students who were taken. However, witnesses told pressmen that more than 100 people were taken. The Catholic Diocese of Kotangora published a statement confirming the tragic incident. The comes barely 4 days after 26 girls were kidnapped in Kebbi. Two managed to escape, while 24 remain with the bandits. Taking total number of known abducted persons to about 170 in just 5-days. According to the Niger State Governor, they had credible intel about the attack in the region. And suspended all construction activities and boarding school resumption. Unfortunately, St. Mary’s defied the directive and resumed without clearance. According to a letter signed by Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alh. Abubakar Usman. Niger police is yet to comment on the tragedy, as state government launch a probe to ascertain the degree of damage.
