With the announcement that the Biden Administration will repeal the NWPR, it’s perhaps a good time to revisit this thread. 1/n

So proud of new article out today in @ScienceMagazine! We revisit the economic analyses supporting the decision to repeal the 2015 Clean Water Rule and replace it with the 2020 Navigable Waters Protection Rule (NWPR). Here are some highlights. bit.ly/water_rule 1/9

Dear friends, please share this as broadly as you can among your interested professional networks. The goal is to lower the transaction costs of new analysis to help support solutions to trade offs now and in the near term.

@cbb2cornell @DinaPomeranz Interesting responses. I agree with Chris’s statements, except that those were huge advantages to me. I went up early and was hugely relieved that the process was over. My first child was born the same year and I could focus on that instead of worry about tenure. Loved it

@DinaPomeranz The only advantages are resolving uncertainty and an earlier salary bump. Few people notice or care about early tenure as the career progresses. The disadvantage is the foregone option value of the extra time to clearly establish a record and pipeline worthy of tenure.

#EconTwitter Question I received from an assistant prof at a public university in the US: "What, if any, advantage is there in going up for tenure early if your department encourages you? (Potential downsides: more service, no chance for the tenure market year.)" #EconAdvice
