Despite oil being off highs since the Iran War started, gas futures are back up to their highest today.

Another point I’ll add. You need to capture and curate your content for the public. If you think impressing the chase community should be your priority then you’re already on the wrong path. There aren’t enough of us to bring the viewership that truly earns the income needed for full time, so quit wasting your efforts trying to impress your favorite storm chaser and start focusing on how the general masses view your content and actually listen to what your analytics are showing you.

This is a topic I always have a lot to say on 1 - It IS extremely hard, but at the same time, it’s also the easiest it’s ever been, right now, with the modern state of things. These radar apps (including the one Matt works for) are massive career funding sources that didn’t exist 10 years ago. YouTube entities like RHY and MV are massive funders of chasing careers that didn’t exist 10 years ago. Social media monetization (which can pay MASSIVE) didn’t exist 10 years ago. Streaming has been around for over a decade, it’s not a new or innovative concept, but it made no $ until YT got involved a few years ago (talk to us who streamed during the chaserTV-TVN-SS days back in 2010.) The big issue for a lot of people is they think they can be a full time career chaser just by occasionally chasing when they want to and only when they want to, seeing the occasional tornado in a field from a couple miles away, posting the video/content, get 400,000 views and then disappear for 3 weeks. No. That will never work. You need to have some sort of presence almost every day. The first thing to know is if you don’t treat it like a job, you’ll never make. Hard reality. And there’s a stigma around that where oh no it’s WORK which means it’s ruined and you’re a sellout. That’s a bunch of BS yes there are some nuances that comes with it and things I’d rather not have to deal with, and a tiny part of me envies those who just chase purely for fun an don’t have to worry about anything else, but that’s the 10% of me, the other 90% is living the dream and is the happiest ever. If you’re not willing to endure the 10% discomforts you will never make it, and that’s just the facts. But that being said, smart financial decisions are imperative. As someone who’s 43 I can already feel the effects of the sands of time not flowing upwards. Thinking you’re invincible and will be young forever is a dangerous mindset. Be smart with your finances. Some of us weren’t born into $$ and if your pace has to be slower, so be it. It’s ok to be late, the point is you got there. Again I’m 43 years old and 2024 was only my first truly full time year.

A LOT of people take the idea of always chasing everything a bit *too* literally. Chasing is great… BUT, at some point, other things matter too… benefits, 401K, etc. I’m very worried about the number of 20-30 year olds living paycheck to paycheck with no long-term plan.

Seasonal tornado forecasts seem to be truth so far in April w/ a focus on Illinois. Iowa and MN might be unexpected though. I wonder with the eastward movement of the arid west over time we see more setups look like 2026. The solid line used to be the mark of the humid climate.

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the weekly chaser question. Today's question is moreso directed towards the veteran/experienced chasers. It is, if you could give any advice to younger/inexperienced chasers what would it be?

I would think SPC adds an area for wednesday in the high plains of CO/KS/NE if 0z data comes in similar. Looks like a solid LP structure hailer type day. Great low level shear, and all your cape above the freezing level. Honestly would be a nice change of pace. Sounding from NE/KS border area.
