Authorities have recovered human remains believed to belong to a man who was fatally attacked by a crocodile at Mpopoma Dam earlier this month. The remains were discovered during the dissection of a crocodile suspected to have attacked the victim while fishing at the dam on May 1. Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) spokesperson, Mr Luckmore Safuli, confirmed the development and expressed condolences to the deceased’s family. “We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and associates of the deceased during this difficult time,” said Mr Safuli. Following the attack, ZimParks, working with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other stakeholders, launched a search operation for the missing man and the reptile believed to have been involved. The crocodile was tracked down, shot and recovered on 23 May before being dissected, leading to the recovery of the human remains. Police in Matopo attended the scene to verify and formally document the findings. ZimParks has since urged communities to avoid swimming, fishing or collecting water in unsafe areas, particularly during the early morning and evening when crocodile activity is at its peak.

A meeting over an alleged debt ended in tragedy after a 34-year-old Shepherd Severa allegedly killed his friend before dumping the body in a gravel pit in Warren Hills, a Harare court heard on Friday. Severa appeared before the magistrates’ court facing a murder charge over the death of 28-year-old Brian Nandanaand was remanded in custody. According to prosecutors, the events unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday when Severa allegedly contacted Nandana and asked him to meet at Pfukwa Shopping Centre in Warren Park D over an unspecified debt. Believing he was going to settle a dispute with a friend, Nandana reportedly drove to the shopping centre, unaware it would be his final journey. The State alleges that after entering the victim’s vehicle, Severa strangled Nandana before using a knife to slit his throat. Prosecutors told the court that Severa then allegedly took control of the vehicle and drove towards the Warren Hills cemetery area, where he is accused of dumping the body in a gravel pit and covering it with stones in an attempt to hide the crime. But the alleged cover-up unravelled when an informant, Ronnie Tumbare, who was supervising security guards at a nearby construction site, reportedly noticed suspicious activity in the area. The court heard that Severa allegedly fled on foot after realising he had been seen, accidentally dropping Nandana’s iPhone 12 as he escaped. Detectives from the CID Homicide Unit later recovered the phone and allegedly extracted text messages exchanged between the accused and the deceased shortly before the killing. Investigators say Severa subsequently led police to the gravel pit where Nandana’s body had been concealed. The matter remains under investigation.

“.. our main focus as IMF especially on our Staff Monitored Programme (SMP) is on public finance management and the role of the parliament in public financial management as you know the parliament is very active in following up the Auditor General’s report and the committees here also do their job .. but in general our role is mostly on economic governance , Public financial management , transparency and from that angle , we’ve seen a very good progress..” - Dr. Daniel Gurara , IMF Resident Representative Speaker of Parliament, meeting with the International Monetary Fund 📷Monika Chanda #ParliamentofZimbabwe #IMF #StaffMonitoredProgramme
