@hvsperus @MauvinasLP @aledornell But Argentina literally fought a war against Spain to be independent, and by international law, every piece of land that was part of the colony, became part of the new nation. This doesn't apply only to Argentina. You can look up uti possidetis juris if you don't believe me.

@hvsperus @MauvinasLP @aledornell How do you think literally every country on Earth was founded? Every country on Earth has a violent history during its creation. But you know what Argentina didn't do? Argentina didn't sail to the other side of the world to try to claim an island.

@hvsperus @MauvinasLP @aledornell France settling first (rightful owners). Britain settling second (unlawful owners). Britain leaves. France gives the islands to Spain (rightful owners). Argentina gains independence, and by uti possidetis juris (international law), they became the rightful owners of the island.

@claudegm @MauvinasLP @aledornell british leave the island in 1770s: illegitimate claim forever, even after re-settling the island in the 1830s argentinians leave in the 1830s: being denied sovereignity over their rightful indigenous rock

@hvsperus @MauvinasLP @aledornell It was an imperialistic country (that still has colonies to this day, in the 21st century by the way), trying to take territory by force, which is exactly what they also did with the Falklands.

@claudegm @MauvinasLP @aledornell i don't know much pre-modern argentina history but a cursory glance shows me that these invasions were regular acts of war

@hvsperus @MauvinasLP @aledornell It wasn't uninhabited when Britain took them in 1833 (there was a settlement there, which they took by force), and Britain had abandoned the islands 60 years prior to that. They also weren't the first settlers (the French were, who gave the islands to Spain).

@claudegm @MauvinasLP @aledornell is it not obvious the difference between genociding the native population that already live on the land and settling on an uninhabited island?

@hvsperus @MauvinasLP @aledornell Oh, so it's okay to do it in some places and not okay to do it in others, got it. A little hypocritical, isn't it? What do you think about the British invasions in Buenos Aires in 1806 and 1807 where they unsuccesfully tried to take control of the city? Are you okay with that?

@claudegm @MauvinasLP @aledornell i think its can be true that the british committed horrific acts in some parts of the world but also legally settled a random uninhabited island

@United1908 @jhallwood Oh, let's say that a country of 45 million people are Nazis because a few decided to go there after WWII. It's stupid The UK has a history of genocide, are you genocidal? You have a history of piracy, many of whom were rapist. Are you a rapist? The Nazis weren't even Argentinian

Argentina is the whitest country in South America. How do they think that happened? They are colonists. Their entire proximity to the Falklands is thanks to the Conquest of the Desert when their forebears butchered the natives of Patagonia. Third world victim-aggressor mindset.

@Skeleman71 But not the first to settle them, which were the French. Also, the British left the islands for 60 years before coming back and taking them by force by driving away the Argentinian people that settled there in the 1820s.

@Davidisonaroll @DeptfordWife1 @leap_dog Argentina doesn't care about the Falklanders, they only care about the land. If Argentina ever gets the islands (they won't because Britain wants the oil) the Falklanders can stay if they want

it's low key disappointing that there doesn't seem to be a strain of the argentine left that is pro-british control of the falklands out of like an anti-nationalist anti-junta historical context. like booooring, you can do better than that.

@United1908 @jhallwood The amount of Nazis that immigrated after WWII are miniscule compared to Argentina's population. And yet every time people mention Argentina, they think we're all Nazis. More Nazis went to the US than Argentina, but you don't talk about that. That's ignorant and borderline racist

@MauvinasLP @aledornell … given that there are no indigenous people on the island… and the british claim predates the argentine claim, casting yourselves alongside people actually being genocided is actually despicable

@United1908 @jhallwood Oh, please tell us more about the Nazis. 7% of Argentina's population is descended from Germans (BUT Volga Germans, so Russians) that immigrated decades before WWII. Also, one of the highest populations of Jews in the world. So, what Nazis, you ignorant, racist prick?

@CatilynHolmes @MauvinasLP @reportingLibya No, we're not a colony, we're a FORMER colony, we're a sovereign nation, just like the US and every other country in the Americas. The Falklands, in the other hand, are 100% a colony.

skeleman 🇨🇦🌈@Skeleman71

It’s actually very simple -The Islands were uninhabited prior to European settlement -They never once belonged to Argentina -Most importantly, they voted 99.8% yes in a referendum to remain British Meanwhile the Argentine claim is “gimme gimme gimme I want it”
