Thread. Interesting statistic: Since 1957, 72% of Tour de France victories have been achieved by riders implicated in doping scandals. 💊 These riders and their infractions are listed below. 👇

@marramirem5 I expect CAS will bring it down to 2 years. What is amazing is the extreme difference in outcome of this case vs the Jade Jones case, which has similarities. It was never proven that Jones could not make a reasoned decision, it was just argued that it was feasible.

@cleans_letsrun Yes but it was ITIA that "invited the tribunal" (as per section K) to impose the maximum 4 year ban. Vondrousova did accept some responsibility and asked for a 2 year ban as starting point.

ITIA, which fast-tracked SAME-day appeals for Sinner's provisional suspensions, shows no mercy to Vondrousova — Despite admitting their officer used an outdated PWC form and relied on online images of the player instead of verifying her ID🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍😑

The full decision in the anti-doping case of Markéta Vondroušová has now been published. The decision provides the independent tribunal's written reasons for issuing Vondroušová with a four-year suspension following a test refusal in December 2025. 🔗itia.tennis/news/sanctions…

She was mind-bendingly cavalier and careless and disdainful of the tester (and - maybe most gallingly - totally ignorant of the anti-doping rules)....I still struggle with this series of unforced errors effectively killing her career....But, not a good fact pattern for the accused....

@jon_wertheim Can you summarize because it’s a lot to read.

Just read the full judgement on Marketa Vondrousova (banned for 4 years for refusing to give a sample). According to the report, neither Vondrousova nor her agent were aware that players can be tested outside of their 1-hour whereabouts slot. itia.cmail19.com/t/y-l-fyhlhll-…

Thread. The ITIA and Sports Resolutions have made the Markéta Vondroušová reasoned decision available. In this thread I will highlight some of the most interesting aspects of this document, commenting where appropriate. itia.tennis/media/b4rpkore…

Vondroušová had evidenced her fear of answering a doorbell late in the evening by stating that she had previously locked herself in her bathroom when her bell had sounded at 10pm. But this was used against her, given that on 3 Dec she had not hidden but instead exited her home.

The tribunal dismissed the expert opinion provided by the player in regards to anxiety disorder and acute stress reaction. Jacobs failed to reference the (similar) Jade Jones case, where that athlete escaped sanction on the basis of a retrospective psychological analysis.

The tribunal noted that the DCO's accounts were "largely consistent", whilst the player's accounts sometimes "differed".
