Do you expect rural-urban migration to increase urban informality in developing countries? Our forthcoming paper @ecmaEditors with @GUlyssea finds the opposite. We show that between 2000 and 2010 drought-induced migration decreased informality in Brazilian cities.

Max and I wrote a Handbook chapter discussing this rural to urban migration. I claim that rural weather shocks will accelerate economic growth in these nations by accelerating rural to urban migration and increasing educational attainment.

A very interesting paper. Going forward rural people who anticipate that rural earnings faces increased weather shock volatility will increase their investment in skills. Why? The urban migration option becomes more valuable. A thread.

I'm on the #EconJobMarket!
Millions of women dropped out of the labor force in rural India starting in the mid-2000s. Why?
My #JMP shows that gendered commuting frictions + urban-biased growth is an important part of the answer.
