🛢️Venezuela Here’s the thing. Venezuela hasn’t updated its pipeline network in 50 years. Its resevoirs haven’t been maintained, and processing tar-like sludge is tough. To get to 3m barrels, they need a decade and close to $60 billion in CapEx.

Shocking stat of the day: Venezuela’s oil production is currently at just 30% of the levels seen 15 years ago. We could easily see another 3 million barrels of oil hit the market per day. That’s more than the daily consumption of all but 6 countries in the world.

In the past, many used to say "the US is saying it is democracy but it is oil". This time, it is the opposite. Trump says it is oil, but it is not. (Probably Rubio told him this to convince him.) In the best case, $30bn in gross revenue a year for Venezuela (see thread-need to pay debt, interest, imports from that). Even if the US were to steal it all (impossible) it is a trivial sum of money for the US, 0.1% of GDP, more or less what NVIDIA generates in one quarter. This could never justify the huge political risk involved. You need to add that the US is now a net exporter, so it benefits from higher prices, not lower ones.

📢 La CRE a publié le 2 février 2024 sa délibération fixant le tarif d’utilisation des réseaux de distribution de gaz naturel de @GRDF pour la période du 1er juillet 2024 au 30 juin 2028. Ce tarif s’inscrit dans le cadre des orientations de la prochaine Programmation Pluriannuelle de l’Energie (PPE), qui engagera concrètement notre pays vers la neutralité carbone à l’horizon 2050. La CRE a fixé le tarif ATDR7 au terme d’une large consultation des acteurs du secteur, permettant de maintenir un niveau de sécurité élevé pour les réseaux tout en contribuant à l’intégration du biogaz dans ces derniers.
