10 Research-Based Teaching Principles Every Teacher Should Know 1. Start lessons with a quick review. Daily review strengthens previous learning and boosts recall. 2. Use small steps with student practice. Chunk new material in bite-sized pieces so as not to overwhelm working memory. 3. Ask lots of questions. Questions provide necessary practice and help assess mastery of new material. 4. Provide models and examples. Modeling expert problem solving techniques helps students learn new skills faster. 5. Guide student practice. Successful teachers spend more time actively guiding practice to ensure quality learning. 6. Check for understanding frequently. Regular comprehension checks identify areas needing reteaching. 7. Strive for high student success rates. High success during practice instills confidence and enthusiasm for learning. 8. Scaffold difficult tasks. Temporary supports like modeling and prompts facilitate learning of complex skills. 9. Require independent practice. Extensive independent practice builds automaticity and fluency with new knowledge. 10. Incorporate weekly and monthly reviews. Regularly revisiting previous material strengthens connections and patterns.

Also, I've added a little link so staff can check where I am if they email me. I am planning to over-communicate my location, not so I can be disturbed, but so you know when/where I will be to catch-up. 👊

Last term we decided to focus on teaching behaviour explicitly to our pupils. We had recently maintained our outstanding grade but felt like behaviour wasn't quite where we wanted it to be. We decided to explicitly teach pupils our values. This is how it went 🧵
