At typical cruise altitude about 32,000 feet a commercial airliner is already high above most weather and in stable flight. But from launch at sea level, the Artemis II stack blasts past that 32,000 foot mark in roughly 20–25 seconds. That means in the time it takes to count “one‑Mississippi, two‑Mississippi,” the rocket has already climbed above where jetliners normally fly. Then the acceleration really shows. In another 20–30 seconds, the vehicle has passed through 100,000 feet (30 km+), well into the edge of space. From sea level to near‑space in less time than 35 - 50 seconds Numbers that hit this scale put human engineering in perspective:- • 0–32,000 feet (9.8 km) in 20–25 s average vertical speed > 1,200 mph • 0–100,000 feet (30 km) in 45–55 s average vertical speed > 3,300 mph No aircraft in regular service comes close to that climb rate. Airliners take 20+ minutes to reach those altitudes through a controlled, fuel‑efficient ascent. This capture doesn’t just show a launch it vividly illustrates the raw acceleration and energy release required to escape Earth’s gravity, all in the blink of an eye.

Passengers on a commercial flight captured the launch of Artemis II on camera The plane happened to pass near the launch trajectory at the exact moment of liftoff, giving passengers a rare view of the rocket launch right from their windows.
