In contrast, the national Youth Climate Corps campaign has been advocating for a federally-funded Youth Climate Corps that would offer paid opportunities for young people to be trained and employed in essential, in-demand jobs, including emergency response.

The lack of ambition in today's announcement means that our government is failing us and failing the rest of the world, choosing to remain beholden to powerful fossil fuel interests and short-term profits.

Despite challenges of being a federation, we need imaginative & transformative leadership from the feds to build programs & institutions for a post #fossilfuel economy. 🇨🇦 must utilize tools like #windfallprofitstax to curb the greed of Big Oil & incentivize a low-carbon future.

Today's announcement of Canada's new 2035 climate target is a devastating blow to #climatejustice efforts around the world. Experts have determined that 🇨🇦's fair share of the global effort is ~80% reductions from 2005 levels by 2035 + additional support to the Global South.

The real winners of #COP29 are the fossil fuel lobbyists; the draft text on the table is nothing short of a victory of them. Gone are the pillars that would have enabled the next era of #climateaction: public, grant-based finance and adequate $ for adaptation & #LossAndDamage.
