@SteveDunne Its not just the UK trade that are confused, 1000's of overseas operators who handle the UK tourists are also confused as to when they should gear up.

I’ve been working for myself more than half my career & I still can’t understand why there are brands out there who think it perfectly acceptable to ask you to turnaround a job overnight (to get them out of a hole) & then make you chase them for 4 months to get paid. Why do that?

@SteveDunne Judging from reports last night the biggest group effected is the over 50's and also the largest group that find it harder to get new jobs.....hints of possible ageism. Will see as my wife has been made redundant after 15 years service

The most striking chart from today’s UK labour market statistics. Just look at the jump in redundancies: far bigger than after the financial crisis. And note this is yet to reflect many of the high street job losses of recent weeks.
