My parents have been married for 40 years.

My mum died yesterday.
We were fortunate to be with her in her final hours. Mum managed to keep going until her birthday & we ensured it was a great day.
My mum was the best mum in the world, ever. I will miss her terribly.
Mum and dad are back together again. Keep safe.

We now have the Government response:
Neither the PM nor 10 Downing Street nor the Cabinet Office knew the Foreign Office had decided to ignore the fact Mandelson had failed his security vetting.
Call it the ‘know-nothing’ government.
But it leaves a major question unanswered: why would the FO take it on itself to make such a huge judgement call — and not inform/consult Downing Street?
What was in it for the FO? It hadn’t even necessarily wanted Mandy, unlike Starmer and the 10 Downing Street operation.
Doesn’t add up.

He was initially denied developed vetting clearance in January 2025 - weeks after Keir Starmer had officially announced his appointment. Foreign Office was ‘encouraged’ to deploy a rarely-used power to override the recommendation from security officials. I see govt are out there this morning trumpeting their £8.7 million bribe to river charities.
That's £8.7 million which allowed water companies to walk away from 20 separate criminal prosecutions and by criminal I mean up to 5 years in jail, unlimited fines and the proceeds of crime legislation applies, you can start seizing houses, cars and thing else you think is a proceed of crime.
Take Severn Trent, they've agreed to pay £4.6 million and they get to walk away from 6 separate prosecutions, that's the same Severn Trent that already paid £2 million in 2024, £1.5 million in 2021, and on, and on, and on and they get to walk away.
The Rivers Trust as always only too happy to take the money. Well they do have a £4.4 million payroll bill to look after.
