I am thrilled to share my 2nd book is in the works! The brilliant @S_Oberle & I, w/ @CorwinPress, are working on a follow up to my first book to unpack executive functions in the primary / early years classroom. I could not be more honored to have Dr. Oberle as my co-author!
Sarah Oberle, Ed.D.@S_Oberle

Despite the impact they have on academics and behavior overall, little is known about EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS in education- particularly in general ed settings. As a follow up to his first book, Mitch @organizedbinder and I are writing a book to address this need for K-3 teachers.

Far too many popular strategies for teaching reading are not actually supported by research. We sifted through to find the ones that are most effective.

Many commentators talk about the importance of so-called "soft skills" for leadership into the future. @IDEOU has (so appropriately) rebranded them as "power skills". Here's their brilliant list of 12 key power skills: 1) Cultivating joy 2) Meaningful collaboration 3) Small-scale experimentation 4) Grounding in purpose 5) Creating community 6) Frame shifting 7) Leading with empathy 8) Emotional proofreading 9) Making room for more voices 10) Leading with questions 11) Finding balance 12) Agility ideou.com/blogs/inspirat… Thank you @FerraroRoberto for the link & graphic

Humbled to discuss the process of sharing messages of positivity and kindness!Team effort, big shoutout to @WV_Counselors @WayneValleyTV Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless. Take a moment to share an act of kindness with those around you

"Third Party Compliments" has become an annual tradition at a New Jersey high school. Students and staff members share anonymous messages of kindness and positivity with one another—and what a difference it makes! @Mr_S_Wisniewski explains how it works. edutopia.org/article/compli…

One of the best mental shifts I’ve made as a teacher is to stop planning out Monday to Friday and instead plan out Tuesday to Monday. It has made my Sundays so much less stressful because I’m already prepped for that first day.

@MonteSyrie Thanks for sharing. I wonder what kind of responses you would get if you added positive behaviors to the list as well. Might help figure out the ways students hope to be rewarded, i.e. public vs private praise.

Kids and I completed the Response Card process yesterday. I don't know how often I will use the finished product (never done this before), but I do know how powerful it was for them (us) to reflect on the behavior/response dynamic of our relationship. Behavior's a conversation.
