@closedprimaries I’m a Dem. But I liked Holcomb over the dem candidate in the last election, so he earned my vote. Closing primaries wouldn’t give me an opportunity to ensure he was the candidate come November. Explain to me like I’m 5 how that doesn’t restrict my right to vote?

@JWReamer You being embarrassed by your vote / party alignment =/= restricting your rights. Closing the primaries is necessary. You may feel too embarrassed or perhaps like the fence-sitter LARP, but that’s no reason to promote + enable crossover voting.

@JWReamer It’s entirely accurate. If your party doesn’t run worthy candidates, get involved and let them know (or be that worthy candidate). Crossover voting stifles the voice of the party it nominates. Close the primaries.

That's not accurate. If my primary options are determined by my general election votes, that means how vote in previous elections will impact my options for the next primary. That's unacceptable. Where I live moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats tend to think alike, despite the feeble minds who think politics purely binary. I may alter my voting strategy in a given May based on which side is running the fringe candidate.

@HonestColtsFan @stopher9779 Ultimately, legislature will be responsible for those aspects. As mentioned previously, ‘Independents’ vote with the same party consistently. This would change nothing. Closed or open primaries have negligible impact on turnout. Per Yale, Clark University and others.

@closedprimaries @stopher9779 How would the process work then man? Sell me. How often can you change party affiliation? What if you want to vote republican for governor but Dem/independent rest of your ticket? How would this not reduce voter turnout by excluding independents?
