The narratives about smoking cessation products always pertains to youth. Yes. Let's do this again: So many people are quitting smoking that the state now has less money to spend on helping people quit smoking. 🙄

Interesting that even the community note had to step in and add context to this article. The cited review was criticized for: • not comparing vaping to smoking, • confusing correlation with causation, • and failing to follow standard systematic review practices. That matters. 🐁 Much of the alarming “vaping causes cancer” coverage also relies heavily on mouse and laboratory studies rather than long term human cancer outcome data. Laboratory and animal studies can help generate hypotheses, but they are not definitive proof that nicotine vaping causes cancer in humans the way combustible cigarettes clearly does. ➡️ The real scientific question is not whether vaping is completely harmless. The question is how it compares to combustible cigarettes. Because cigarettes remain the deadliest consumer product ever sold, still killing over 8 million people globally and more than 480,000 Americans every single year. 💀 ➡️ If a headline creates a misleading impression that vaping carries the same established cancer risk profile as smoking, then this article deserves a substantial correction, if not a full retraction. It is articles like this that risk scaring adult smokers away from trying potentially less harmful alternatives to combustible cigarettes.🚬 ✅️ The public deserves honest, proportional, evidence based reporting.

Before I dig deeper into this post, I want to be clear I am Pro Adult Choice. That being said the hypocrisy seeing alcohol promoted in Alberta parliament and almost in the same sentence by the same MLA bashing and bringing a private members bill 208 asking to ban one of the best harm reduction tools ever created. Why are the rules so different ? Enforcement and age gating in a regulated market works for everything else that requires age proof product to be purchased.
