Also, this made me realize reins on a hitching pose really are the bike locks of horses

a nice dapple grey for a Korean bike that's a decade or two old. decidedly not polished or sleek, and needs some elbow grease now and then, but it runs just fine :)

caaaaan't really give horse drawing TIPS but as promised here's the (mostly tackless) lineart from each of my horses from the past 2 days before I drew the saddles and bridles on. horses are like anything else, it's just very important to be good at breaking them into shapes

@Witchydigit this!! my hooves are stylized and aren't exactly anatomically accurate but they LOOK accurate and shaped, which is important

@cloudmancy Cannot stress enough developing your own shape language, as well. I've tried other people's animal tutorials, but it all ended up wonky until I found my own breakdown of form, skeleton, and muscle. It's the act of studying and interpreting that makes it look so good

Last bike horse for today. This commissioner wanted a relatively lightly built horse that's good on bumpy terrain for their mountain bike! I went with a Tennessee Walker and gave her a bit of a haughty expression since they said she's 'too good to be ridden in the city'.

@twylautism @TheQueenieRose [nodding] the shoulders and chest are important. I'm realizing that I have always drawn the shoulders at least in outline whenever I sketched out a horse, because it's so important to the front end & connecting legs properly to the body. torso + shoulders the first things I draw

@cloudmancy @TheQueenieRose the biggest mistakes i see in horse art are the legs!! the shoulders, hind end, and stifle all move in a particular way and are all connected but ppl unfamiliar w horses think of legs as independent
