@KeirMilburn @NotJustYouHere @jemgilbert If you'd asked Marx if he only meant "working men" or also "working women" he would probably have said the women as well of course. Although, discarding the gender struggles as secondary is obviously a long standing critique against Marxist leftists.
English

@KeirMilburn @NotJustYouHere @jemgilbert However, all that was probably not even on the radar when Marx used the grammatically male version, and translating it understood as the generic masculinum as "worker" (both male and female) is probably fair.

New Year is a time for plans and manifestos. In this #ACFM microdose @NotJustYouHere, @jemgilbert, and I go back to the source and read The Communist Manifesto by OGs Marx and Engels. Listen as we explore a text containing 'banger after banger' quotations

@Chillbizz @BeaBovary Was ist da los? Sie und @BeaBovary leben in einer AfD Informationsbubble und haben keine Ahnung was Realität und was ihre komische Fantasie ist.

@BeaBovary Bei Magdeburg steht: "Laut BKA kein islamistischer Hintergrund"
???
Wenn ich alle prominenten Informationen zur Kenntnis nehme und den Versuch unternehme, möglichst objektiv zu bewerten, dann komme ich nicht zum Schluss "kein islamistischer Hintergrund"
Was ist da los?

@maryoxford Btw. while I mainly miss some of the local Oxford chat on Mastodon and generally the UK is not very strong over there yet, there are lots of Germans on Mastodon. So, if you want to practise your German you should find plenty of people to follow.
English

@maryoxford @katejo99 Selbstverständlich, es wäre mir eine Freude 😊

If you don't want to be on a Musk platform anymore, now that you are in a Musk world, remember there are alternatives. Join me on Mastodon, would be nice to see more of you there. I only drop in here to rant about broken infrastructure to my local councillor (sorry @maryoxford)
English

@maryoxford @OxfdPedestrians @BadlyParkedOx @tvprp @MarkLygo @OxfordshireCC And I really believe it is not zero sum. It is not people walking, against people cycling, against people driving. It could be better, and we know how to make things better, nothing about is new, or radical, or unproven. youtu.be/d8RRE2rDw4k?si…

@maryoxford @OxfdPedestrians @BadlyParkedOx @tvprp @MarkLygo @OxfordshireCC Anyway, so many useful things that could be done. I still owe you an reply to your recent email. I try not to be angry, but it is somewhat exhausting if progress is so slow. I believe Oxford is at a place where we really could set the direction for a much better transport system.
English

Local councillor thinks it is a prioirty to block a small footpath with bollards to slow down cyclists. Cars and huge lorries illegally blocking a busy junction... Who cares. #carblindness #lorryblindness @OxfdPedestrians @BadlyParkedOx @tvprp

English

@maryoxford @OxfdPedestrians @BadlyParkedOx @tvprp @MarkLygo I think bollards would be a good idea, yes. And vehicles are neither allowed to drive on the pavement nor unload on the junction blocking sight lines.
English

@clumpytree @OxfdPedestrians @BadlyParkedOx @tvprp @MarkLygo What do you suggest we do with the William St corner? Vehicles are allowed to park on DYLs for short periods of unloading & since they’re not blocking the pavement, the police won’t get involved. Are you asking for bollards on the corners ?
English

@maryoxford @OxfdPedestrians @BadlyParkedOx @tvprp @MarkLygo As of today the footpath is still blocked. We might disagree on whether slowing cyclists while allowing legitimate use is possible, but even if you are right: Prioritising putting the bollards there over the William St. corner is a choice.

English

@clumpytree @OxfdPedestrians @BadlyParkedOx @tvprp Which local councillor is that? @MarkLygo & I have been working with County Council to get those bollards off Purcell Rd moved so cyclists, wheelchairs & buggies can pass but slow cyclists & e-bikes down for pedestrians. We regularly ask for enforcement of cars on pavements too.
English

@maryoxford @katejo99 @MarkLygo @OxLivSts @OxfdPedestrians Given the amount of traffic on the shared use path, there are more conflicts on that pinch point than on the link from Purcell to Goodson walk.
English

@maryoxford @katejo99 @MarkLygo @OxLivSts @OxfdPedestrians The alternative going round the bottom of Edgeway Road and on the shared use path there would be more attractive if the pinch point between Edgeway Road and Croft Road park was widened (needs some square meters of the sport fields). 1/2
English

Any idea who came up with the idea to block the footpath connecting Purcell Road to Goodson Walk fixmystreet.com/report/6575443 @maryoxford @katejo99 @MarkLygo @OxLivSts @OxfdPedestrians?
English

@maryoxford @katejo99 @MarkLygo @OxLivSts @OxfdPedestrians To be honest, I don't believe blocking bikes while not blocking legitimate use is really possible, but well, let's see what they come up with next...
English

@clumpytree @katejo99 @MarkLygo @OxLivSts @OxfdPedestrians 2/2 The photo is NOT what was agreed! Perhaps it will be third time lucky with this. Thanks for flagging it up. It is definitely not acceptable. I don’t know what they were thinking.
