Goa Shipyard Limited (#GSL) today handed over the first indigenously designed Pollution Control Vessel (PCV), #SAMUDRAPRATAP (Yard 1267), to the @IndiaCoastGuard, marking a significant milestone in line with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. ICG SAMUDRA PRATAP is the first in a series of two hybrid PCVs developed in-house by GSL for combating oil spills at sea. It is also the largest vessel in the Indian Coast Guard fleet to date, measuring 114.5 m in length, 16.5 m in breadth, with a displacement of 4,170 tonnes. The vessel introduces several first-of-its-kind capabilities for the Coast Guard, including hull-flushed side sweeping arms, retractable stern thrusters, FiFi-2/FFV-2 fire-fighting systems and Dynamic Positioning (DP-1). These advanced features significantly enhance India’s marine pollution response and operational precision. With 75% indigenous content, the project has contributed substantially to skill development, employment generation and MSME participation. The delivery of SAMUDRA PRATAP marks GSL’s fourth vessel delivery in the last six months, reaffirming its role as a key contributor to India’s maritime security and environmental protection capabilities. #Defence #ICG #IndianShipbuilding
