I rolled credits last night on Delta. These are just some of my random thoughts, so if it seems messy, out of order, or like the ramblings of a longtime Metal Gear fan, that’s exactly what it is. Apologies in advance for the long read. What a beautiful game. The texture work, the environments, and the lighting all come together in a way that really highlights Kojima’s original camera work and direction. Watching these familiar scenes play out in this new form had me reliving old memories while also looking closely for details, changes, and little stylistic shifts. I have seen these cutscenes more times than I can count, so every small difference had my mind racing. There were certain areas that made me stop and take it all in. At times it even felt surreal, almost like an out-of-body experience. I caught myself thinking, is this real, am I dreaming, is this really Metal Gear Solid 3? I had trouble processing what I was seeing, but in a very good way. Early in development I was unsure about how some of the characters looked. By the end, most of those doubts had faded. Ocelot works better than I expected, even if some expressions still look a little odd. Snake grew on me as the game went on. The Boss has been amazing from the start and that hasn't changed. The Cobra Unit as a whole looks great, though The Fear continues to feel strange to me for reasons I cannot explain. Volgin, on the other hand, is perfect. His presence, his expressions, his new look as a whole are all incredible. The hangar fight in particular was absolutely stunning. Even supporting characters like Zero, Para-Medic, and Sigint look great in this remake. I will save my full gameplay thoughts for another post since there is too much to cover. Most of it is positive, though a few changes caught me off guard. My muscle memory struggled with the new control scheme, but I committed to it and played the entire game that way. It is honestly not bad, though I know longtime fans will feel the adjustment. The sound design is excellent for the most part, with just a couple of small issues tied to bugs. If you can, play it with headphones. It makes a big difference. What impressed me the most is how much I wanted to keep playing once I was done. I kept thinking about going back, collecting everything, and unlocking all the things I could. The remake feels like a true labor of love. The team honored the legacy of the series while also proving that they are capable of carrying such an important project forward. To everyone who worked on this game, thank you. You should feel proud of what you have achieved. It is not perfect, but it is exceptional in the way it presents, preserves, and honors the original. Anyone calling it soulless has not truly experienced what this remake delivers. I have more I could say, but I will save it for a spaces or future posts. Is it worth buying? Absolutely. Whether you are new to Metal Gear or a longtime fan, you will find something here to enjoy. Most importantly, this remake makes it clear that the legacy of this series will continue to live on. -MGN
