@joboaler I majored in mathematics and taught for several years before I realized I didn’t know all the “math facts.” For example, I didn’t know what 7x8 was because I would quickly do 6x8+8=56 in my head instead of memorizing it. I was told this is an indication of being gifted in math.

yes and I am meeting policy makers from every state next week and will work to get this message (and others) to them.
