When you use advanced training methods or modalities with young athletes you rob them twice.
Once now because they’re not ready for that stimulus,
And again later in their career when they need that stimulus and it’s already been used.
REALLY hard to make a good argument for straight bar back squatting ballplayers, especially in the private sector.
Locking shoulders into external rotation with heavy loads, plus wear and tear on the elbows adds up to more RISK for VERY LITTLE REWARD.
There’s a HUGE shift in the risk reward ratio trying to drive a ballplayer’s deadlift up after 400 pounds, almost no reward, obvious risk.
Remember: KEEP THE GOAL THE GOAL.
If you need 8-10 “movements” to get ready to GO there are probably HUGE holes in your actual training.
Intent > Quantity
Especially when it comes to warming up.
High school baseball players priorities BLOW MY MIND.
If you’re not: big enough, fast enough, strong enough, and / or don’t throw hard enough to get to get recruited WHY would you PLAY FALL BALL!?
Develop, use this window, bring a BRAND NEW PACKAGE this spring/summer.
STOP “sumo stance” trap bar deadlifting.
COACHES: Feet under hips (generally) scour hips and watch movement during early assessment and training stages for more specific recommendations.
ATHLETES: Get great coaches.
