Scientists have created one of the most detailed 3D reconstructions of a human cell (eukaryotic cell) ever produced. This groundbreaking model, often termed a "Cellular Landscape Cross-Section Through a Eukaryotic Cell," combines data from X-ray tomography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and cryo-electron microscopy to map molecular structures in extreme detail.

After 25 years of research, Brazilian scientists developed a drug capable of regenerating spinal cord tissue after severe injuries. The therapy stimulates axon regrowth and reduces scarring that typically prevents nerve recovery. In preclinical trials, treated animals regained partial motor function within weeks. The drug combines neurotrophic factors, small molecule compounds, and bio-scaffolds to guide nerve repair. Human trials are now underway to assess safety and effectiveness. If successful, this breakthrough could restore mobility to millions, transform rehabilitation medicine, and reduce long-term dependency on care. It also sets the stage for future therapies combining cellular engineering and regenerative biology to treat other complex injuries.

A new light therapy kills 92% of cancer cells in just 30 minutes. Researchers in Texas and Portugal have created a cancer-killing therapy that pairs cheap LED lights with atom-thin tin oxide nanoflakes to wipe out tumors while sparing healthy tissue. The process is photothermal: near-infrared LEDs shine on the tin flakes (SnOx), which absorb the light and warm up precisely enough to cook nearby cancer cells. In lab tests, a 30-minute session destroyed 92% of skin-cancer cells and 50% of colorectal-cancer cells, yet left normal human skin cells untouched—precision that chemo and radiation rarely match. In lab tests, the technique killed up to 92% of skin cancer cells and half of colorectal cancer cells after only 30 minutes of exposure – with no harm to healthy human skin cells. It's the kind of precision that traditional chemotherapy and radiation often struggle to achieve. Unlike earlier photothermal methods that needed costly lasers and exotic materials, this version uses off-the-shelf LEDs and abundant tin, slashing cost and complexity. The team envisions wearable patches for post-surgical cleanup to stop recurrence, plus implantable versions for deeper tumors like breast cancer. The bigger aim: deliver hospital-grade treatment to clinics, homes, and underserved regions worldwide.
