I am very excited that I have accepted the position as the Director of Soccer Operations for the Saskatchewan Soccer Association. This is an incredible opportunity and allows me to go full circle as Saskatoon is my hometown and where I began my coaching journey!!I am coming home!

@Russcher Yes like a coaching license or diploma, a bachelor degree is only a single part of a much bigger story. I feel like in a job ad, we are just trying to provide a guide for characteristics we think may improve potential for future success.

@Russcher For me achieving a bachelor’s degree is an indicator of ability to follow a multi year process, with the aim of completing a big and initially daunting project. There are many ways to demonstrate this ability but the degree is a pretty clear indicator.

@swanguardians @colinelmes Keji returned from @TSSRovers a more focused, and complete footballer. His environment this summer clearly helped him take another step in his journey. We are lucky to have had a series of Rovers join our program over the last 3 years, and all have been great additions.

@Jaycvandy @JonCrossland19 This shows the impact a coach can have. I watched @JonCrossland19 explain the concept of time wasting at camp 2 weeks ago, giving the player the tools needed to explore the concept again several times during the games at camp. This is an example of gaining mastery.

Dad/Coach moment tonight….team down 3-0, comes back to make it 4-3. Our GK makes the save and my son runs back and tells the GK to lay down on the ball to waste time…..it was the first half of a u9 game 😀😀

@Jaycvandy @oliverdueck @robhoadley If only our soccer facilities were like the Playhouse, and we could manage the facilities, reinvest all of our user fees into them, and then turn to the city for replacement when maintenance is really costly. We would all win!

@oliverdueck @robhoadley Fun fact. Our City has the 2 largest high schools in the province and we also happen to be the only 2 AAA schools without a multipurpose field. We have teams refusing to play on our grass fields due to safety issues. I will now step down off my soap box. 😬

@Jaycvandy @sipaceonearth @robhoadley Jason is that your pitch to chair the bid committee? No doubt if you can get together 15-20 people keen to put in the effort to fund and host the games it can be done! I bet there are lots of local sport organizations that would love to commit to facility rental for years to come

@sipaceonearth @robhoadley Our region has capacity issues with recreation facilities. Hosting would open up funding to build facilities to change the landscape for decades. While we prioritize roundabouts and the Arts (both worthy causes) we are paving the way for Moncton to again be 1 step ahead of us.

@mattyoung101 I couldn’t agree more. The ADM/LTAD model really don’t account for socio-cultural differences between sports, or between the same sport in different regions. Thanks for clairifying, and giving me some food for thought.

@mattyoung101 Do you have a preferred model that you encourage orgs to work with? Do you see ADM/LTAD as being info to base an organizations model on, and simply adapt to the context of their sport? Really curious about your approach here.

@ciaramccormack Fully agree Ciara! Totally necessary. Even with the system, we will still need a culture that supports reporting and accepts the oversight.

@ciaramccormack I agree with you for sure. Independent reporting mechanism will be massive. To make change we all have to be brave and do what is right. Parents have to be brave to report and clubs have to be brave to address the issues brought forward. It is hard for all.

@ciaramccormack We then have a responsibility to support and educate coaches and parents, on what is abuse how to recognize it and how to discuss the impacts. Work with well intentioned individuals to improve their behaviour and release individuals who aren’t able to meet standards!

@ciaramccormack @ciaramccormack this is something I think about non-stop as someone in a soccer Org. It is important for organizations to recognize we are only liable if we know about it and do nothing! This means the most important thing for us to do is hear parents, and act.
