If the Apostle Paul walked into many American churches today, he would probably shake his head, grab his pen, and start writing letters again. Picture this. He steps into a big Sunday service with bright lights, loud music, and a pastor cracking jokes like a stand-up comedian. The crowd is cheering, but Paul notices something is missing. Where is the fear of the Lord? Where is the repentance that brings true life? He would sit down and write something like this: "Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, to the church in America that calls itself rich and full of life, yet is poor, blind, and naked. You have turned His house into a place of entertainment. You chase after the latest trends, the biggest crowds, and the softest messages. You preach a gospel that tickles ears but never wounds the heart. You say 'God wants you happy and wealthy,' but I preached Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the proud. Brothers and sisters, you tolerate sin in your midst and call it love. You divide over politics and skin color while claiming to be one body. You sing songs about surrender, yet you hold tightly to comfort and self. Repent, and return to your first love. I thank God that some among you still hold fast to the truth. But to the rest I say, wake up! The day of the Lord is coming. Be holy as He is holy. Grace and peace to you, but only if you turn from these ways." Paul would not be laughing. He would be weeping for a church that has grown lukewarm while thinking it is on fire. Let us examine our own hearts today, friends. Are we building with gold, silver, and precious stones that will last, or with wood, hay, and straw that the fire will burn up? The Bible calls us to be different from the world, not to blend in with it. May we return to the simple, powerful faith of the early church, rooted in Christ alone.
