@TheGridironHQ 6am before school. Small school, all multi sport kids. Don’t wanna make them choose between sport or weight room.

@coachkklein That’s spot on. Especially the schedule piece… if kids can’t realistically make it, nothing else works. What time or schedule ended up working best for your group?

1️⃣Educate the players. Everyone wants to win, teams that Win have strong weight room culture. Easy to show correlation. 2️⃣Find a time in the schedule where the most kids can make it. Could be early AM or late PM. Being together is critical. 3️⃣Make weight room mandatory. Hold the standard but understand it will take time to get buy in from everyone.
GridironHQ@TheGridironHQ

You take over a program that hasn’t lifted consistently in 3 years. Kids don’t know how to squat, attendance is inconsistent, and there’s no system in place. What’s your FIRST move: A) Mandatory lifts B) Incentive system C) Educate players D) Fix schedule E) Fire strength coach F) Other Why?

@markyfontz @NJSIAA No doubt that this is a valid concern. But I would say a majority of club 7v7 players are not playing a spring sport. There are always exceptions. But the state could allow schools to sponsor “Club” 7v7 so it wouldn’t affect eligibility. I think either way is better.

@coachkklein @NJSIAA Feel like this is a double edged sword. If 7 vs 7 becomes a spring sport kids would need to choose between doing 7 vs 7 and a spring sport. It’s another team that is in need of field space and time.

This has to be something @NJSIAA considers. NJ has some of the highest quality football in the country yet we don’t have spring 🏈? The next best thing would be to allow HS 7v7 programs to compete in an organized, responsible manner. Not to mention all the transfer recruiting that takes place in club 7v7
Tony Shiffman@CoachShiffman

You can end this real quick. Make the 7 on 7 programs obsolete and allow for high schools to have school sponsored teams/coaches. That will cut out the bullcrap that goes on at these tournaments if state associations are involved.

As someone who entered coaching as a 7v7 coach first, 7v7 can be a great tool in moderation for: 1. Def Coverage fundamentals and route recognition (for hs teams not club) 2. WR Route spacing and timing 3. QB coverage rec and timing It is the coaches responsibility to stress fundamentals and run their “real” schemes. Can’t say a lot of positives for off season club 7v7 other than competitive reps but summer HS 7v7 can be a good tool for teams.
Coach Tanner Smith@Coach_Smith_1

Coaches, I have some serious questions. What positives do you get out of 7 on 7? Do they outweigh the negatives? Are these off season 7 on 7 events helping players get better or is it creating bad habits? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

@FollowTheRuless Yes I do believe it’s our job to help educate our players and their parents. Many kids have never even heard of the schools that are recruiting them. And honest evaluations are apart of our process to avoid unrealistic expectations.

I have a question for High School football coaches- Do you believe that it is your responsibility to give advice and have an educated opinion on a college fit for your players or do you believe you’re supposed to remain an objective party in the process & largely stay out of it?

There’s no greater strength program than puberty and consistency. Let’s not over complicate high school strength and conditioning
