2️⃣ The second building in our #C20RiskList is Penallta Pithead Baths, Caerphilly (1938) Described upon opening as ‘the finest and biggest pithead baths in the country’, Penallta is one of only two Grade II* listed examples in Britain. The colliery closed in 1991 and permission for residential conversion has been in place since 1999, yet time is running out to save perhaps the most important surviving International Modern movement building in Wales. c20society.org.uk/buildings-at-r…

1⃣ The flagship case in this year's #C20RiskList is the former National Centre for Pop Music in Sheffield, designed by Branson Coates architects and opened in 1999. NEWS: C20 has renewed its 35 year-long campaign to designate the Hayward Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Purcell Rooms at the Southbank Centre, as a Certificate of Immunity from listing the brutalist arts complex expires. Loved researching this case for C20. 1930s newspaper articles referred to the architect as "Mrs RA Gerrard" after her husband so it took a bit of digging to find her name, Molly Gerrard (née Taylor). And the reports on her work at Bath were fantastically sexist -

⛏️ Miners' Modernism: Pithead Baths They brought European architectural modernism to working class communities across the country, and delivered widespread health and welfare benefits some two decades before the founding of the NHS, yet the story of Britain’s pioneering Pithead Baths has been almost completely forgotten. Now a new research project, led by C20 and @QUBelfast, aims to shed new light on their legacy and discover exactly how many of these ground-breaking colliery buildings remain. 📍We need your help! It was a pleasure to meet the Trust (@TheMorrisHall) who have owned the hall since the 1930s and have been fantastic custodians of the building & to spend time with the Shrewsbury Civic Society who are great advocates for the town's heritage

It was a total privilege to work on this @C20Society listing app for the Morris Hall in my hometown of Shrewsbury. It was commissioned by Shrewsbury's first Labour Cllr for the Shrewsbury Labour Party and townspeople and built by local craftsmen practicing traditional crafts
