Good thread. Though not mentioned, I think accessibility fits squarely in this phenomenon — to value it, one must appreciate the complexity of the world we’re building for, and care about social good. Viewpoints antithetical to the sort of company these people want to run.

@jaffathecake Not trying to call you or google out specifically, btw. I think you have good points about complaints & communication. But when it comes to a11y, IMO the problem is one of approach. The people raising these issues are seeing them as part of an ongoing pattern, not one-offs.

@jaffathecake Sure, you could change plans later or make the golf club public. But it was still designed by and for people with privilege. Also it’s not just one building, but all of them. The point being the world will always look a certain way if it’s designed first for those with privilege

@yatil @vavroom Another common error is to replace the tube, but not remove the thing that originally made the puncture. Usually I find out where the leak was, and check that area of the tire and rim for little sharp things 😅
