@GShaneMorris See: Andy Stanley's infamous "unhitching" sermon where he completely botches Constantine and the Council of Nicaea

@GShaneMorris I think you'd be disappointed how many average people who attend church regularly have a similar conception of church history

It's no exaggeration to say that the average person with a high school education who does not attend church regularly accepts as a matter of settled fact that Constantine promoted Jesus to godhood and excluded a bunch of secret gospels from the canon. I talk to them all the time.
Philip Bunn@PhilipDBunn

The level of historical conspiracy some of these people are on is mind-boggling, but just remember a lot of very normal people believe just as stupid things (Dan Brown history of the church etc)

The ESPN broadcast sounds like they’re just now, for the first time, finding out there’s a hockey team called the Capitals

@PhilipDBunn I've realized just how important this is. If there's a couple sitting near me in church that brought their kid, I ALWAYS make it a point to tell them what a blessing it was to see their kid in the service, and what a great job they're doing as parents.

If you are positively disposed to children, I'm increasingly convinced you have a positive obligation to make parents with children feel welcome in public spaces. Even something as simple as positive smiles makes a difference. Let children exist!
John Ehrett@johnehrett

In the next few decades, we are going to see a nasty cleavage in public life between people who love kids and people who actively dislike them and want them excluded from public space.

How can anyone watch football like what's happening tonight and think we need more domed stadiums??

One of the best parts about influencer culture is right now when you go through their Reels it's "3 posts of full on meltdowns about the end of the world , 2 sponsored posts of them all dressed up pitching 50% off some clothing brand, 4 more meltdowns."

It's also insane how this movement was ever painted as somehow misogynistic, hateful, or oppressive.

I'm watching old footage from Promise Keepers rallies from the 90s for a project, and it's truly wild the difference between the humble, God-centered, sacrificial masculinity every speaker at these events exhorted men to, and the bizarre machismo nonsense you come across today.

Yep. The grindset and pop stoicism folks haven't gotten as far as asking "What is the good life?" It's not girls, money, and cars. It's not even being the kind of person who can get those things. What do they teach in these schools? It's all in Switchfoot.
Derek Rishmawy@DZRishmawy

The thing I see is an empty shallowness attendant on that fixated on externals, money, temporal status markers instead of God, the eternal, etc. as well as a purely natural existence w/o grace.

@PhilipDBunn The weirdest part about this current discourse is they're like "Homeschoolers r stupid and being abused" and then you point to all of the data and examples that show that's simply not true and then they're like "THOSE ARE THE EXCEPTIONS MY PRIORS CANNOT NOT BE CHALLENGED!!!"

Fully convinced that history will go on to remember this one as the best in Shyamalan’s whole canon. It’s only obliquely a horror-thriller. It’s a dark romantic drama about conservatism, modernity, and generational regret. Mass culture didn’t live this, and doesn’t get this.
