@ChimeWhistle I remember speaking to the driver of the train that had just cleared the tunnel when it collapsed when I worked at chiltern, the way he described it was pretty scary and it shook him up for years!

@nb_Snowgoose @colasgrid TfW have two wheel lathes, Cardiff and Holyhead. The lathe at Cardiff is currently out of use. Presumably the cost of hauling it to Holyhead is less than the cost of paying to use someone else’s lathe! The nearest to Cdf which does ‘outside work’ is St Philips Marsh in Bristol.

First Class 231 to North Wales today, seen passing Cholmondeston just after leaving Crewe. 37510 is hauling Stadler Flirt 231006 from Cardiff to Holyhead for tyre turning I believe.
