A year ago we wrote that Cursor's flat-fee pricing would disappoint users eventually. Over the past few days GitHub paused Pro signups, pulled Claude Code from the $20 tier, and marked Cursor's $60 plan as "recommended" over $20. Windsurf jumped from $5 to $20. Cursor's $20 Pro plan used to get you 500 premium requests. Under the new credit system, that $20 buys roughly 45 Opus calls before your credits run out. One dev burned through $350 in a single week on overage. What used to be a working plan has become a trap door.
