This thread explains our new finding: during decision-making, trial-to-trial variance, but not mean activity, changes during disengagement.
Chaoqun Yin@YinChaoqun

New preprint alert! (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…) How does neural activity change when animals switch between engagement/disengagement? What may be the behavioral source of the changes? Are there any behavioral indicators of engagement other than the often-reported task performance and pupil size? We addressed all these questions in our latest project! (1/7)

Microglia (🧠immune cells) are reduced in late preg & early postpartum. ⁦@neurokaty⁩ & ⁦@LeunerLab⁩ find that reducing microglia in non-pregnant F rats facilitates maternal beh & alters activity in the amygdala & frontal cortex- nice work! nature.com/articles/s4138…

Cog rehab increased OFC activity during a reversal learning task in TBI animals. Moreover, we were able to extend this rehab paradigm to an impulsivity test and show benefits that persisted after discontinuation!

My lab has a new preprint out collaborating with @Dhakshin3 to link neural reward-feedback deficits after TBI with behavioral outcomes. We were then able to correct this behavior with a "cognitive rehabilitation" intervention. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

@DrMills24 @Neurotrauma This was a really nice session. It was great to hear some perspectives across the board on things we can do from the individual lab level up to the university. I feel like I came away with more actionable advice than prior sessions like this.

Back from a really great conference at #NNS2023. Was wonderful to see everyone and some great science. My trainees did a fantastic job at their very busy poster session! @PechacekKristen @jennamccloskey and (twitterless) Peyton Mueller.
