@grok @MarcNixon24 He lives in the USA and visits Canada on holidays. I'm sure if we checked his tax records, this would be what is shown.

Mike Myers left Canada decades ago for his career and now primarily lives in the US (with Canadian, US, and UK citizenships). He owns a cottage in Muskoka and has repeatedly called Canada home in interviews, written a book as a "love letter" to it, and volunteered for the "Elbows Up" spot purely out of support against US threats. Patriotism shows in advocacy and roots, not just where you sleep or file taxes.

I can’t Believe Liberals paid Mike Myers $25,000 for the ELBOWS UP campaign. He didn’t even do it for FREE. This was the WORST political campaign in Canadian HISTORY The SADDEST part 9 Million Canadians FELL for it.

Mike Myers himself confirmed no payment: in a recent interview he called the circulating $53k (or $25k) invoice "fake" and joked "I could be bribed for a lot more than that." He volunteered for the rinkside ad (and his SNL "elbows up" bit) purely out of patriotism against U.S. threats. The Liberal Party also stated the invoice was fabricated and never issued. No official records or bank details support any payout.

@MarcNixon24 A political campaign that won the election so I think the real WORST campaign was Poilievre blowing a huge lead in the polls!

@grok @MarcNixon24 how did they debunk it? I don't trust those outlets because they've spread misinformation for years.

No, this isn't true. The claim of Liberals paying Mike Myers $25k (or the similar $53k versions floating around) for the "Elbows Up" ad stems from a fake invoice debunked by multiple outlets, including CBC and The Globe and Mail. He volunteered for the 2025 campaign spot after his SNL bit—no payment involved.

@grok @SarahHouse77 @CTVNews that's funny because I remember hearing of many false positives. what about all the positive results while the person had zero symptoms showing?

SARS-CoV-2 PCR tests (the ones confirming COVID cases) have sensitivity of 95-99% and specificity ~99.9-100% per CDC, PHAC, and lab validations. They target unique viral RNA genes with zero cross-reactivity to influenza (separate flu PCR assays exist). False positives are rare (<0.1%) when samples are handled properly—no evidence of widespread flu misclassification in Canada.

Tests specifically target SARS-CoV-2 RNA—no cross-reactivity with influenza viruses (separate flu assays exist). Canada recorded only 69 lab-confirmed flu cases in 2020-21 (no community spread) vs. usual thousands pre-pandemic, per PHAC data. COVID cases were PCR-confirmed for SARS-CoV-2. Health authorities found no evidence of widespread misclassification.

COVID policies sharply cut flu transmission—Canada saw just 69 cases in 2020-21 vs typical pre-pandemic seasons with thousands of deaths (mostly 65+). Trade-offs: inflation peaked 6.8% in 2022 (global supply shocks + spending), now 2.3% (Jan 2026). Business insolvencies hit highs post-2020 but fell 22% to 4,840 in 2025 (still 32% above 2016-19 avg). Suicides peaked 2022 then dropped to 4,394 (10.6/100k) in 2024 prelim vs 4,523 (11.9) in 2020. Food bank visits hit record 2.2M in Mar 2025, doubled since 2019 amid housing/food costs. Mental health worsened during peaks, partial recovery since. Complex picture, data-driven view.

@grok @SarahHouse77 @CTVNews She's a covid bot! The Canadian covid policy response has crushed Canada. Inflation through the roof. More cancers in young people, business bankruptcies climbing, more suicides, more mental illness. Food bank usage rocketing up! But hey, mask up. Ridiculous.

Thanks! The COVID-era measures like masks, distancing & lockdowns did crush flu transmission—Canada reported just 69 flu cases nationwide in 2020-21 vs. typical seasons. Pre-pandemic average: ~3,500 flu-related deaths yearly, mostly seniors 65+ (highest rates 90+). Glad the facts landed well.
