would you rather hear Sleater-Dan, a band playing Steely Dan songs in the style of Sleater-Kinney, or Steely-Kinney, who play Sleater-Kinney songs in the style of Steely Dan

I love that 3D movies are now a way for documentaries about art to become even more immersive (plus they show at art houses where you can get a beer). @janusfilms @asideshowfilm

Today features a look back when @AlabamaMBB experienced an international trip in December 1983 as Wimp Sanderson took the Crimson Tide to Osaka, Japan, to play in the Suntory Ball. Sanderson still isn’t sure how or why event organizers invited Alabama, but he used it as a unique recruiting angle. University President Joab Thomas and his wife also accompanied the team to the Land of the Rising Sun. Suntory, a noted Japanese whisky, is the label highlighted by Bill Murray in the Academy award nominated movie “Lost In Translation.” When Sanderson talked to the tournament directors, he recalled a politically-incorrect request. “They asked if we could bring blonde-haired cheerleaders,” Sanderson said. Alabama, then a Converse-branded school, wore tournament-provided Nike uniforms for the three-team, round-robin event. Alabama lost to DePaul 77-76, before bouncing back to crush Texas Tech 76-56. The team also rode the famed bullet trains that are never late. “I told the players, we’re going to meet at the bullet train to go,” Sanderson said. “Let me explain something fellas, if the bullet train leaves, and you’re not there, you’ll be left back with 75 million people who don’t know you.” Former Alabama football star Murray Legg, who helped support basketball operations, traveled to Japan in advance to arrange accommodations and Sanderson sent explicit instructions. “I told him when you go over there, they’re going to give you a lot of gifts,” Sanderson joked. “When you get all the gifts, you bring them back to me.” 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑊𝑖𝑚𝑝 𝑆𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑓𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟 @chelseacwallace 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑙𝑎𝑠ℎ𝑏𝑎𝑐𝑘

That photo everyone is sharing of Patrick Mahomes’ helmet shattering it was taken by this photojournalist Emily Curiel @shortlittlekidd of the @KCStar. It wasn’t luck that made the photo, it was her preparation, skill, experience and knowledge of the game/players. Hat tip to you.

@tashaaaaaaa Good luck! People love to tell horror stories about their extractions, so let me counterprogram by saying that I was eating nachos 48 hours later.

Alabama hired Saban my last year of grad school, and I distinctly remember wondering how much it would cost the school to buy out his contract in three years. Instead, sixteen years later, he’s completely transformed the school and the state. An incredible run.
