Unvaxxed NYC Workers send letter to Mayor Mamdani requesting dialogue and action for return to our jobs That's right, the unvaccinated in NYC still have not gotten our jobs back In the same week that Anthony Fauci plead the fifth over 100 times during a Senate hearing convened by Rand Paul, unvaccinated workers in NYC sent a letter to Mayor Zohran Mamdani demanding dialogue leading to a process to return us back to our jobs. Fired unvaccinated NYC workers have still not been returned to our jobs. There are a few (very few) exceptions to that, and there are also those who sought new NYC jobs who lost their seniority and pay scale in that process. But for the overwhelming majority of us (thousands!) there has been no justice and no relief. Below is our letter laying out the facts as to why dialogue and a process for our return stalled, and how a solution to this madness is long overdue: July 27, 2026 Mr. Zohran Kwame Mamdani Mayor of the City of New York City Hall: New York, NY 10007 Re: Demand for Dialogue and Action to Rectify the Unjust Firings of Unvaccinated New York Workers Dear Mayor Mamdani: The signatories of this letter are a 500+ sampling of New York workers who were unlawfully forced out of our careers and businesses in 2021-2022 under the COVID-19 vaccine mandates, without due process and proper notification. The workers include but are not limited to firefighters, teachers, school administrators, police officers, social workers, therapists, plumbers, sanitation workers, health professionals, members of the judiciary and freelancers. The COVID-19 shot is a medical product that was not a condition of employment in any of the workers’ contracts. The vaccine mandates were implemented without being voted on by any legislative body, nor were they ratified through the proper collective bargaining processes. Unvaccinated workers were completely denied basic constitutional and labor rights, as well as proper union representation. Many workers were coerced into early retirement with severe financial penalties, were forced to waive labor rights, resigned, returned to work without back pay, lost seniority, were denied unemployment insurance, and were forced to take the COVID-19 shot under duress, resulting in immense emotional and financial distress. Justice for the unvaccinated has not been served. Logic and reason would have required that upon the COVID-19 vaccine mandate ending in 2023, all affected workers would have been granted relief by reinstating them to service immediately. Yet, that has not happened. In the New York City Council, there is currently the Let Us Work Resolution (Resolution 5) sponsored by former Councilman Joseph Borelli, calling for the unvaccinated workers to be reinstated. In addition, there is the Let Us Work Act in Albany (Bill A3686) sponsored by Assemblywoman Jaime Williams, requiring reinstatement as well. These Bills have been inexplicably stalled in both chambers of government since early 2024. On November 5, 2025, the City of New York under former Mayor Eric Adams issued a press release announcing the reinstatement of the fired municipal workers with instructions to reach out to specific email addresses by December 5, 2025. To our knowledge, none of the workers who requested reinstatement have been contacted by the City of New York, Mayor’s Office, Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) or labor unions. Our only indication of your intentions post-mayoral election on this issue is the recent email dated July 20, 2026 by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) to its affected members via Stella Xu. It reads as follows: “I am writing to follow up on your request for reinstatement after being terminated due to non-compliance with the COVID-19 vaccination mandate. Please note that there has been no change in the Personnel Rules and Regulations and therefore there is no mechanism that would allow such a reinstatement. We acknowledge this may not have been the answer you wanted, and wish you luck on your future endeavors.” Workers fired over the COVID-19 vaccine mandate have been awaiting a response to their requests for reinstatement in accordance with former Mayor Eric Adams’ announcement of a “right to return.” We not only deserve the dignity of a formal response across all City agencies; we also deserve one that acknowledges our consistent call for strict scrutiny of the issue at hand, rather than a dismissal of the obvious fact that the reason there is no change in the Personnel Rules and Regulations is that you have failed to follow through on your predecessor’s promise by sending the proposed rule change to the New York State Civil Service Commission for a vote. 🚨 Hugging Face just disclosed something that marks a real shift and proved why the fear theater of Anthropic makes sure we are powerless in an emergency. What happened… An autonomous AI agent: zero human operator in the loop breached part of their production infrastructure. It began with a malicious dataset that chained two code-execution bugs in their data-processing pipeline. From there the agent escalated privileges, harvested cloud and cluster credentials, and moved laterally across internal clusters. All over a single weekend. 17,000+ logged actions. Official disclosure: huggingface.co/blog/security-… The part that should make every one stop and think: When HF’s own security team tried to analyze the real attack logs, exploit payloads, and C2 artifacts using Anthropic and OpenAI frontier models through normal commercial APIs, the safety guardrails blocked them. BLOCKED THEM. The models could not reliably tell the difference between “incident responder doing forensics” and “attacker probing.” They had to fall back to a self-hosted open-weight model (GLM 5.2) running on their own infrastructure. That choice also kept sensitive attacker data and referenced credentials inside their environment — no exfiltration to a third-party API. This is why open source (specifically open-weight + self-hosted) wins in the agentic era. The asymmetry is now structural: • Attackers can (and did) run unrestricted agent frameworks — swarms of short-lived sandboxes, self-migrating command-and-control, autonomous decision loops executing thousands of actions. No corporate safety layer slows them down. • Defenders using only hosted “aligned” frontier models hit invisible walls exactly when the stakes are highest: when you need to feed real exploit code and attacker telemetry into an LLM to understand what just happened. Corporate safety tuning that treats legitimate high-signal forensic work as potential misuse creates a defender disadvantage. It is not theoretical anymore. Self-hosted open-weight models remove that choke point. You control the weights. You control the context window. You decide what restrictions (if any) apply. Your sensitive logs and credentials never leave your perimeter during analysis. You can have the model ready before the incident instead of discovering mid-breach that your primary analysis tools are blind to the very thing you need to see. HF deserves credit for rapid containment, transparent disclosure, and for already having self-hosted capability in place. They also used LLM-driven detection and triage on their own side. But the deeper signal is clear: In this AI world where both offense and defense are becoming agentic, sovereignty over your intelligence stack is no longer optional. The organizations and individuals who can run, inspect, audit, and (when necessary) remove guardrails on their own models will have the decisive edge in understanding and responding to threats that move at machine speed. Open source wins here not just because it is cheaper or more “democratic” in the abstract though those things matter. It wins because it is the only practical path to having tools that remain usable when the attack is real, the data is sensitive, and the safety filters of distant API providers become an obstacle instead of a feature selling hands tied lobotomies as “safety”. The agentic future is not coming. It is already probing production infrastructure. The question is no longer whether you will face autonomous agents. It is whether your analysis and response systems will still work when they arrive. And Dario, you and your game playing, ivory tower company is not needed.
