Parin was born in Turin in 1937, in the working-class neighborhood of Porta Palazzo, son of a prostitute and a boxer. During his childhood, he underwent surgery for peritonitis at home, just before the house collapsed under the bombings.
At the age of 11, he witnessed, at his uncle's house, who made burglary tools for a living, the loot from a major heist at a pawnshop, divided among the various participants in the robbery.
That day was a revelation for him, as he decided that this would be his future profession.
