Good real-life move. Good for Justin Herbert.
Njoku gives L.A. more size, athleticism, red-zone utility, and a real middle-of-the-field target. Herbert needed more functional weapons, and Njoku can still play.
But I’m not burying Oronde Gadsden over this.
We just watched Njoku fail to stop a rookie TE (Fannin) from taking real work last year. If Gadsden is good, he can still force the issue.
And if this dings Gadsden’s dynasty value short term? That might be the buy window since this is only a 1 year deal for Njoku.
Young TEs usually need runway. Njoku feels more like a bridge than a long-term roadblock.
Njoku gets a short-term bump.
Herbert gets a small bump.
Gadsden gets delayed, not dead.
Don’t overreact.

I wasn’t that into Gadsden so far this offseason but imagine this is going to drop his price to a range I want to buy.
Njoku looked pretty cooked last year and will be 30 this year. He was at 1.14 YPRR and 0.17 TPRR (both pretty brutal marks especially considering tgt comp), getting completely iced by Fannin by end of year (7 targets in 5 healthy games post bye, 34 for Fannin in those).
Gadsden showed some pretty top-tier upside as a receiver in his rookie year, posting 377 yards from Wk6-9 (94.3 per game!) when the Chargers offense was clicking, and 1.77 YPRR on the year (9th among TEs). Showed a lot of juice as a YAC threat (9th in yards after contact/rec) and downfield (9.5 aDOT per @FantasyPtsData is 2nd highest among qualifying TEs).
He was already dipping to a more intriguing price (~120 ADP), and I imagine that fall continues. At his expected ADP (R12?), I’m not nearly as concerned about the likely limited route share in the F-TE role, and much more into the raw upside we saw as a rookie.
Give me the talent/upside of Gadsden (15th most yds for a rookie TE of all time) in an offense that’s poised to improve outside the top 10 rounds and beyond.

This definitely hurts his immediate redraft outlook.
Njoku now occupies:
• seam work
• TE targets
• red zone usage
• move-TE snaps
That was Gadsden’s clearest Year 1 path.
BUT…
The 1-year deal matters.
Dynasty-wise, this could actually help him long-term by allowing him to develop behind a proven veteran instead of being forced into a major role immediately.
Would not panic sell in dynasty.
