🇦🇬 As Antigua and Barbuda headed to the polls, Commonwealth observers were on the ground early. Chair Dr Pelonomi Venson watched as queues formed and officials prepared to open voting at 6 a.m, marking the start of the Group’s election‑day observing. 49 out of 56 Commonwealth countries have marine coastlines. We're supporting them to raise capital for projects that protect and sustainably use marine resources. This week we launched the Commonwealth Blue Bond Readiness Programme with the Blue Bond Accelerator, ORRAA and partners. Commonwealth observers have been deployed across Antigua and Barbuda to observe pre-election preparations. The Chairperson of the Commonwealth Observer Group, former Foreign Affairs Minister of Botswana, Hon Dr. Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, visited polling stations and counting centres to assess preparations ahead of voting in the 30 April elections. #CommonwealthElections 🗳️

As part of their mission, Commonwealth observers began the day by meeting with the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission to assess its institutional readiness. They also met with the UK High Commissioner as part of their broader outreach to Commonwealth High Commissions, gathering perspectives from stakeholders with longstanding on-the-ground experience. #CommonwealthElections🗳️

To gain a better understanding of the current security and media environment, Commonwealth observers in Antigua and Barbuda met with the Commissioner of Police and his team, as well as representatives from both public and private media organisations. These discussions formed part of a broader assessment of the environment as Antigua and Barbuda continues its preparations for the upcoming general elections. #CommonwealthElections

Commonwealth observers have begun stakeholder meetings as part of their mandate, including courtesy calls on the Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams, Prime Minister @gastonbrowne and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Chet Greene.
