When I was in Stroud at the weekend, I went to the Museum in the Park. The guy who worked there was an #Uncanny fan and insisted on showing me this - a Victorian ‘Mourning Doll’ - they were commissioned by families who had lost a child, life-size effigies wearing the child’s clothes and often wigged with their real hair. How sad and haunting!
