Competition Tribunal of South Africa

The Competition Tribunal is this afternoon hearing a proposed merger involving two of the world’s largest health and wellness companies, Kimberly-Clark Corporation and Kenvue Inc. The proposed merger is an international transaction. The Tribunal is hearing oral submissions from the Competition Commission and the merger parties. The Commission (which investigates and assesses large mergers before referring them to the Tribunal for a decision) has recommended that the Tribunal approve the merger, subject to conditions relating to employment; small, medium and micro enterprises (“SMMEs”); and historically disadvantaged persons (“HDPs”).

Preparations are well underway and we are excited for tomorrow! The Competition Tribunal is partnering with the Viva Foundation in observance of Mandela Day, embracing this year’s theme: “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity.” Together, we will spend our 67 minutes planting more than 2000 vegetable seedlings in the Viva Foundation’s food forest and garden in Refilwe, Cullinan.
