Uhuru dropped it from 16% to 14% (a 12.5% cut). The law strictly limits the CS to a maximum 25% adjustment. Dropping it to 8% is a 50% cut. It is legally impossible without Parliament. The Chairman of the Finance Committee is using a legal move from 2020 to justify an unconstitutional trap today. There’s this story going around and it has really divided people. A 22yr old lady is in jail serving 20 years for defilement. According to her, she met a guy who looked fully grown, tall, masculine, everything. They ended up at his place, then the grandmother found them, screamed, and that’s when everything escalated. That’s when it came out he was actually a student below 18. At some point, her family even tried to offer money (over 100K) to settle it, not knowing defilement cases can’t be withdrawn. Now the reactions are interesting. Some people feel sorry for her, say the sentence is too harsh. Others say the boy probably lied about his age. Others are like, law is law which I agree. But let me ask you something honestly, If this was a 22yr old man in jail for the same thing, would people be this sympathetic? Because many young men are locked up over similar cases and nobody even questions it. And this brings me to something I’ve always thought about: Should a 19yr old really go to jail for 20 YEARS for being with a 17yr old? I mean, same environment, same level of maturity, both just figuring life out. Is that the same as a 28yr old with a 16 or 17yr old? Or should the law actually separate these situations? Maybe if the age gap is like 2-3 years, punishment should be different, maybe community service for 3 yrs instead of destroying someone’s entire life with a 20-year sentence. Then reserve the heavy sentences for clear cases of exploitation. I don’t know, I just feel like not everything is black and white. Let’s talk. Like we have the law based on age gap . 2 -3 --- community service 4 and above jail term .
