New Zealand condemns the behaviour of Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Last year, New Zealand placed a travel ban on Minister Ben-Gvir for severely and deliberately undermining peace and security and removing prospects for a two state solution. His latest conduct with respect to the Gaza flotilla, which has been seriously criticised by his own Prime Minister, is further vindication of that position. We expect Israel to adhere to its international legal obligations, including in its treatment of New Zealanders participating in the flotilla. I am truly appalled at the video posted by Israeli Cabinet Minister Ben-Gvir taunting those involved in the Global Sumud Flotilla. This violates the most basic standards of respect and dignity in the way people should be treated. We are in touch with the families of a number of British nationals involved to provide them with consular support. We have demanded an explanation from the Israeli authorities and made clear their obligations to protect the rights of our citizens and all those involved.

These are international civilians, innocent of any crime, who have been illegally abducted in international waters by Israel. That’s what we’re looking at here.

Can you imagine the terror and horror Israel inflicts on Palestinian children, women, and men in detention centers when the cameras are away? This is Israeli terrorism.
